Are you getting tired of pumpkins yet?  Speaking for myself, I am almost there. I must confess, I'm beginning to feel that urge to decorate for Christmas. Before that feeling totally sets in, I thought that I would post a few photos of our front porch.  It's been decked out in fall's finest for several weeks now.

The weather here has been very mild.  So mild that the giant licorice plant that sits in the corner of our porch all summer has not yet died.  Neither of us has the heart to throw her out, though, so there she sits - waiting for the first hard freeze.  I plopped a pumpkin down inside her just to make her look a little more fall-ish.

Falling For the Season!

Yes, it is true.  I have fallen for the season.  Autumn brings a crispness to the air which I find so energizing.  It certainly puts me in the mood for a little rearranging, whether it's just a simple tabletop or an entire room.  Since I have all this seasonal energy, I decided to give the coffee table in our great room a touch of fall.  The first thing I did was lay down a very old doily that was crocheted my mom a long time ago.  As a little girl, I remember this doily always spread across the back of every sofa we ever owned.  On the left, there is a lovely ceramic pumpkin placed atop a glass cake stand.  Hidden just to the left of my gorgeous crystal Gallia biscuit jar is the gourd that matches the ceramic pumpkin.  If I remember correctly, these two pieces are from Home Interiors.  The Gallia biscuit jar, which I adore, was a wedding gift and matches all our stemware - a blog post for another day!
Here's the top of the coffee table and a much better view of my pumpkin and gourd.  I just really like the leaf detail on them.  If you click on the photo, it should enlarge for a great close up.
I like the way my old needlepoint throw pillows show in the background of the view below.  I also like the way Mom's crocheted doily is laying all bunched up on the table.
After the coffee table was all dressed for the season, I moved on to the fireplace mantel.  I began by pulling out my trio of glass pumpkins from QVC.  I place the two largest pumpkins on the left and the smaller little guy on the right.  They are supposed to be candleholders and have a circular hole in their backsides.  I have decided not to put candles in them, but may change my mind, they do give off a lovely golden glow when they do have candles in them.  Atop my three wooden candlestick I plopped small faux pumpkins from Walmart ($.97 each) what a bargain!  Our mantel is just shy of six feet long so it looks skimpy without greenery.  I poked lots of fall silks up there to cozy it up.  It still is in need of some type of autumn wreath or or large statement piece hanging on the wall to top it off, but I have not found anything I like (and can afford) just yet.
I really do like the way the two pictures below turned out.  I do wish I had the ability to remove the glare from the window on the first photo, but it's okay.

After the mantel was dressed, it was time for some fall accents in the entertainment center shelves - not all the shelves, though, I don't have THAT much energy!  On the shelf pictured below I placed a ceramic pumpkin cookie jar.  This guy matches the gourd and pumpkin duo from Home Interiors that are on the coffee table.  Although it is a Home Interiors piece and coordinates with the other two, I did not buy them at the same time nor at the same place.  I bought the two on the coffee table a couple years ago from Sharon, my wonderful Home Interiors dealer.  The cookie jar was a find from two or three years before that at one of the fall festivals we attended in our area.  The "Bless Our Home" angel was something my DH found online and wanted for our home.  I like the way she looks in this vignette.
I gave the ghost pumpkins on the shelf in this picture a romantic look using lace, faux pearl beads, and a satin flower boutonniere I snagged off the guest book from our wedding.  In the background you can just make out another piece of our Gallia - a hurricane lantern.
I just had to include this shot.  Another romantic vignette of ghost pumpkins nestled in a basket filled with quilts, a lace shawl, and crocheted table topper.  All tucked into the basket with a couple wee little toss pillows.  If you click on the photo and enlarge it, you will be sure to notice the beautiful cameo surrounding the smaller pumpkin.  It's actually a choker necklace, and I think it looks absolutely perfect tied around that little guy.
So ends this little tour of my autumnally decorated great room.  I do hope you enjoyed yourself and maybe got a few ideas for your own home.
