A Trip To Custom Floors and More!
Since DH and I both had the day off from work, it seemed like a good time to schedule an appointment to meet with the flooring guy, Joel. He was very helpful in helping us make some very pretty choices for the house. What's more, his advice was on where to transition to different flooring materials throughout the house was invaluable. DH and I felt quite confident going in, that we knew exactly what we wanted, and after listening to Joel's experience and recommendations, we were even more confident that we made very good choices.
The wood sample above is called autumn oak and is the color of the cabinetry in the kitchen. The image below is the countertop we have planned for the kitchen. It's quartz and the color is called Canterbury. Since we do not plan on laying down wood floors in the kitchen, we didn't really have to worry much about flooring in here. Because of the "busy-ness" of the quartz, Mike, our kitchen designer, recommended that we opt for something rather plain. That was an easy enough choice. We chose a very creamy-looking vinyl with a 12 x 12 tile look to it.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the wood floors look once they are installed in the house. We, again, decided to go with a 5 inch oak plank. This is where is gets interesting. The oak flooring we're going with is hand scraped which gives it kind of an old, beaten up look. This scraping process and staining of it is done by prisoners in South Carolina. Interesting, huh?
The carpet selection was easy, relatively speaking. We know we needed something that would be able to keep up with a kitty. We went with a beige frieze that has a charcoal fleck in it every so often. I like it because it seems like I'm constantly picking up sock fuzz around here. Now the sock fuzz will blend right in!
We noticed they are on the roof today laying shingles so we're planning on a trip to check things out later today.
